I’ve been reading a lot about the new Pepsi Refresh Project lately and I think you should too. This unique marketing venture is a consumer generated campaign that allows people to share their ideas in the hopes of receiving funding from the corporate giant. It’s amazing, really. People from across the country have submitted ideas to help improve healthcare, promote the arts, end hunger, and save the planet. Grant monies are available in $5,000, $10,000, $25,000, and even $100,000 denominations. If you’ve got a great idea that could help benefit a community in need, I highly encourage you to visit www.refresheverything.ca. Who knows, your idea could be a winner!
Do You Participate in Feel-Good Marketing?
In honour of Pepsi’s unique marketing campaign, I’ve come up with a new idea for the CIK Marketing Blog. From now on, Friday’s will be dedicated to recognizing feel-good marketing ideas from near and far. A big part of owning a business is being able to give back to your community in a unique manner. I hope that other small business owners will read these weekly posts and better understand that feel-good marketing benefits both your company and your community.
A Chatham-Kent Company with Heart: Eve Chocolatier
To kick start this feature, I’d like to give a local shout-out to Eve Chocolatier (please note that Eve is not a client of CIK – we’d love it if they were! In no way is this a sponsored plug). If you visit the company’s Facebook page, you’ll see that the folks at Eve have created a Kiva Lending Team. Kiva is the world’s first online lending platform designed to connect online lenders to entrepreneurs around the globe. Many of the entrepreneurs enrolled in this program come from third world countries where angel investors are hard to find and loans are nearly impossible to secure. Kiva provides these entrepreneurs with a place to pitch their ideas and follow their dreams. By creating a Lending Team, Eve Chocolatier is helping raise funds and awareness for one of the budding entrepreneurs. The generosity of the staff at Eve’s has helped the Chiperez Group from Guatemala raise working capital for their scarf and tablecloth making business.
If you would like to join the Eve Chocolatier Lending Group, simply visit their Kiva profile page. I’m happy to say that I’ve joined and have gifted a $25 donation to the team to apply to another cause that they deem worthy.
You Can Change the World
By starting a Kiva Lending Team, Eve Chocolatier is not only creating good PR for their business (a company that shares is always a company that cares!), but more importantly, the company is helping someone who is in desperate need of financial support. The folks at Eve are doing a great job of generating interest in the campaign as well by posting links to their Kiva page on their Facebook profile. For more exposure, they could also include a small write up on Kiva in their next enewsletter with a link to the campaign, and post some flyers within their physical store space. Heck, they could even create a limited edition Kiva treat to sell at the store and donate all proceeds from sales to their fundraising efforts! When it comes to feel-good marketing it’s all about being creative in order to benefit the greater good.
Best of luck with your fundraising to all of the staff at Eve Chocolatier. Here’s hoping our two small donations can do a world of good.
